Services & prices · quoted in writing before we start

send us what’s due first.

Everything we do is on this page, with a price next to it. Translation, glossaries, in-country review — each billed per project, so the figure on your quote is the figure on your invoice. If reading a rate card isn’t how you want to spend the afternoon, tell us about the file on a free call and we’ll do the sums for you.

The three core services

what each line on your invoice actually pays for

You don’t have to buy all three. But it helps to know what you’d be getting — and what you’d be skipping — before you decide.

A delivery pack: a signed certificate of accuracy, a printed glossary and checked proof pages, in black and white

What lands in your inbox at the end: translated files, your glossary and the signed certificate.

Certified translation

the translation itself

A medical or software specialist translates your file, working from your glossary and inside your own layout or string files. Nothing gets copied into a separate document and pasted back by someone else.

You send

  • The source files, in whatever format you already use
  • A PDF of the English edition for reference
  • Older translations, if you have any

You get back

  • Translated files in the same format
  • A side-by-side file for your own checks
  • A signed certificate of accuracy

Terminology glossary

the glossary, settled before page one

The short list of words that matter most — your device name, every warning, every button — agreed with you once and then used the same way in every file, every update, every year. It’s the cheapest insurance on this page.

You send

  • Terms you’re already unsure about — or nothing, and we’ll pull them
  • Product names you never want translated

You get back

  • A spreadsheet per language, with a note on why each term was chosen
  • Room for your in-market colleague to sign it off

In-country linguistic QA

a second reader who lives there

A different linguist, based in Madrid, Mexico City, Munich, Osaka, São Paulo or Lisbon depending on your market, reads the whole translation. They catch the things a careful translator abroad can still miss: a term that’s shifted, a date format that looks odd, a phrase no local nurse would use.

You send

  • Nothing extra — it follows straight on from translation

You get back

  • A short report listing each change and the reason for it
  • The reviewer’s name on your certificate

$540 per document set

A worked example

here’s what a real quote looks like

A 40-page instructions-for-use leaflet, about 9,800 English words, going into German and Japanese for EU and Japanese launch. These are the exact line items you’d see on paper — no project-management fee, no file-handling charge, no line called “miscellaneous.”

Both languages run at the same time, so the whole job takes about ten business days, not twenty.

Works out at $4,111 per language. Invoiced once, on delivery. If your English grows after we quote, new words are priced at the same rate and agreed with you before we translate them.

Before you send anything

send the file you already have

No need to convert, export or tidy anything first. If it’s one of these, we can work in it directly — and if it isn’t, ask anyway.

  • .idmlInDesign
  • .fm / .mifFrameMaker
  • .docxWord
  • .xliffLocalization exchange
  • .jsonWeb & app strings
  • .stringsiOS & macOS
  • .resx.NET resources
  • .xmlAndroid & firmware
  • .xlsxA plain spreadsheet
  • .pdf only? That’s fine. We’ll ask whether the source file still exists, and quote a little extra to rebuild the layout if it doesn’t.

Files travel by a secure upload link we send after the first call — never as email attachments unless you’d rather.

Before you sign anything

fair questions about the money

If something on the rate card doesn’t add up for your project, that’s exactly what the free call is for. Twenty minutes, no files needed.

book my free 20-minute call (805) 427-0080
why per project and not by the hour?

Because you should know the cost before you commit, not after. We read the file, price it once, and that price holds — even if a page takes us longer than expected.

what if my document changes midway?

Send the new version and we’ll show you exactly which words are new or changed. Those are priced at your original rate, and we wait for your OK before translating them.

is there a minimum order?

For small software updates, $195 per language. For outside-review work, $360. Everything else is simply priced on what you send.

when and how do I pay?

One invoice, sent with your delivered files. We take Visa, Mastercard, American Express and ACH bank transfer.

what if a regulator questions a word we chose?

We’ll explain the choice in writing so you can reply. If it turns out we got it wrong, the correction — and any updated certificate — is on us.
